The details
The food truck offers gourmet hot dogs, street tacos, loaded fries, elote, breakfast tacos, breakfast burritos and drinks such as fresh-squeezed lemonade.
Specialty hot dogs include The Elote Dog, which is a 100% Angus beef hot dog wrapped in bacon and covered with mayo, corn, cotija cheese, Tajin, and topped with cilantro and lime. Childers said their bestseller is The L.A. Dog, which comes with carne asada, grilled onions, raw onion, cilantro mix and salsa verde.
Childers said the food truck held its grand reopening July 15 for National Hot Dog Day and sold nearly 300 hot dogs in a six-hour span. He added that he and his wife, Jeanette, use quality, fresh ingredients that are prepared daily.
El Perro Loco also offers catering services for events, according to its website. Childers said they want to do more community outreach and work with local foundations to help those in need, such as supplying free hot dogs for unhoused people in Denton and working with local schools to aid low-income families.
Childers added that in the next month, they will start selling their food out of a brand-new 26-foot-long food truck, 10 feet longer than their current truck, which will streamline how they prep and cook food.
The backstory
The family-owned restaurant opened in November 2025 and was previously located at 2315 Colorado Blvd. in Denton.
Childers said the inspiration to open the food truck came from his wife’s Los Angeles roots, where street vendors sell bacon-wrapped hot dogs.
“We try to stick with a Latin concept, but we do cater to pretty much everybody,” Childers said. “Our hot dogs are bacon wrapped, but we can do non-bacon wrapped.”
The new location is directly across from La Azteca Meat Market in the parking lot with Holly's Gardens and Florist.
