Villages of Carmel Park celebrates opening with ribbon-cutting ceremony

Denton city officials, the Denton Parks Foundation and local residents celebrated the opening of the Villages of Carmel Park, a new public park located at 6414 Edwards Road in Denton, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony July 11.

The details

The park is located by the Villages of Carmel neighborhood and has new playground equipment for two playgrounds, a covered pavilion, an amphitheater and a 0.5-mile paved loop trail, city officials said.

“The park is but one example of the dedication and commitment by city staff to improving the quality of life in our community,” Denton Mayor Chris Watts said in a social media post.

Construction of the park cost about $2.8 million and was funded from Park Dedication and Development funds, 2023 Trail Bond funds, the city’s parks operating funds and a grant from Texas Parks and Wildlife in the amount of $621,562, city staff said.

The backstory

In 2018, the city acquired 6.5 acres that was tabbed for a future park, according to the city's website. In December 2020, a master plan was developed for the Villages of Carmel property and a design plan was drafted from March to July in 2021.

Construction began on the park in August 2025.
