The Bohemian Bookshop, which has only appeared as a pop-up store at Dallas-Fort Worth events, will open a brick-and-mortar store later this year.
As an independent bookstore, the shop will offer a curated selection that highlights works from small publishers, as well as cult classics, backlist titles and voices from historically marginalized communities, owner Peyton Barfield said. She added that the books will never be determined by general popularity or computer algorithms.
After years of visiting and working in chain bookstores, Barfield said she was ready for something a little more unconventional. The store began online in 2021 as a way to share a love for books that stray from the best sellers list.
The Bohemian Bookshop started bringing this philosophy to community events in 2025. The store has appeared at markets, coffee shops and book fairs around the DFW area and a few in Houston and Austin. Besides selling books, the pop-ups also offered stickers, pins and branded bags.
