Community members got an early look at Dallas Area Rapid Transit’s Silver Line during a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the commuter train’s station at the University of Texas at Dallas.

The gist

The UT Dallas station is one of 10 on the Silver Line’s path that stretches 26 miles from Plano to Dallas Fort Worth International Airport. Richardson will have a second station at CityLine.

The Silver Line will officially launch Oct. 25, with grand opening celebrations being held at all 10 stations from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Riders can also use the Silver Line for free from Oct. 25-Nov. 8.

“This moment captures what we mean when we talk about moving [DART] from being seen as just a transit system, to becoming a regional economic and mobility asset that really helps people in cities thrive,” DART CEO Nadine Lee said.

Quote of note

“The one thing [UT Dallas] didn't have was a connection to the most transformative thing that happened in Dallas-Fort Worth—its airport,” UT Dallas President Prabhas Moghe said. “I see this as a connection to the world.”
