12 million tons of furniture is discarded and put in a landfill and a large percentage is reusable, LoopDeco CEO and co-founder Ramon Pennell said. That’s where LoopDeco comes in.

The details

Pennell said LoopDeco removes used furniture and appliances and resells or recycles them. The company works with a service network made up of small businesses, nonprofits organizations and recyclers.

Customers use the company’s website to request old furniture be picked up, Pennell said, adding LoopDeco will pick up anywhere in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.

“One of those teams in our network will pick up the item the same or next day and then I get reused through refill donation or recycling,” Pennell said. “We're able to reuse or recycle about 85 to 90% of what it is that we pick up.”

What’s special about it

Because they focus on furniture and appliances, LoopDeco can reuse most of what is picked up. Pennell said if one of their partners can resell the item they are picking up, then the pick up is free.

Additionally, Pennell said that oftentimes, junk hauling companies ruin furniture that would otherwise be reusable.

While most of the company’s customers pick ups are consumers, it also works with businesses to remove old furniture from office settings.

Quote of note

“Because of logistical challenges associated with reusing items, whether that be picking it up and bringing it to a non-profit, reselling an item through Facebook Marketplace and try to deal with scammers, whatever it is, It's a real pain,” Pennell said. “And so what Loop does is we come in to make it incredibly easy to remove and reuse.”
