Prosper residents are set to see a new construction project coming to downtown Prosper.
Prosper Town Council approved at a Feb. 10 meeting moving forward with building several downtown monuments throughout the area.
What it means
The $603,402 contract will include building four railroad-inspired columns at Main Street and Broadway Street and five lighted monuments near Broadway Street and Crockett Street.
Prosper Executive Director Robyn Battle said staff have been working on adding the monuments since 2024.
“This has been a long time coming,” Battle said.
Mayor David Bristol said at a Feb. 10 town visioning session that officials are working to develop downtown Prosper as a destination.
Town documents note that officials plan to pursue this through a “mix of public and private developments as catalysts for office, retail, restaurants, entertainment, housing and outdoor events.”
Battle said the project will not use any of the $2.3 million in funding for downtown improvements approved by voters in the town’s November bond election.
One more thing
Council members also considered adding a silo icon monument, which would have cost $326,163, but ultimately decided to follow the downtown advisory committee’s recommendation and did not incorporate the silo.
