A city of Celina budget amendment will bring additional firefighters to a new fire station.

Celina City Council members amended their $195.52 million fiscal year 2023-24 budget by $664,284 during a special-called Oct. 27 meeting.

The gist

The funds will go toward bringing six firefighters to the city’s incoming Fire Station No. 3, which is slated to open in January, interim City Manager Karla Karla Stovall said.

Funds for the firefighters are available to the city through a three-year Staffing For Adequate Fire and Emergency Response, or SAFER, grant, Stovall said.

What else?

The amendment should not have any effect on the other city department costs.

“It’s pretty straightforward,” Stovall said.
