With roughly two weeks until the first day of school, Celina ISD’s enrollment is still on the rise.

A closer look

Celina ISD’s student population going into the 2024-25 school year is 5,300 students—838 more students than last year, according to a July 29 board of trustees meeting presentation:
  • Early Childhood School: 187 students
  • Lykins Elementary School: 609 students
  • O’Dell Elementary School: 812 students
  • Martin Elementary School: 648 students
  • Bothwell Elementary School: 458 students
  • Moore Middle School: 1,245 students
  • Celina High School: 1,336 students

The district has been growing so quickly that five new students were added in the time the report, which included the numbers listed above, was created and when it was presented two hours later, Superintendent Tom Maglisceau said.

The numbers could change again by the time the school year starts due to students moving to or leaving the district, Maglisceau said. As of July 29, Celina ISD has the budget to support 5,650 students, he said.

“Knowing that we should expect to be receiving kids all throughout the school year, we’re looking good at the number we set,” Maglisceau said.

District officials had not been planning to hire for new positions until December, but multiple classes across several campuses are already past their full capacity, Maglisceau said. The district will hire for four new positions to make sure everything is ready for the school year, according to a meeting presentation.

“We did not want to start the year with classes being overloaded already before the school year even starts,” Maglisceau said.
