In 2020, the brothers, along with longtime family friend Steven Benavides, bought the company from their parents, John and Sandy Foley. Although ownership has shifted and decades have transpired, roles in the company have remained consistent.
“From a current standpoint, John handles the construction side, Kevin handles the design and sales side, and I handle the accounting and finance side of the business,” Benavides said.
What they offer
The pool company’s top requested services are new pool builds, pool service and repair, and pool refreshes.
“We get a lot of calls [saying], ‘I have a circa 1984 kidney-shaped pool [with] white plaster, I want to give it a facelift,’” Benavides said.
Kevin Foley said popular new pool trends feature an overall modern vibe with colored pool lights and tanning ledges, also called Baja Ledges, where the water is about nine inches deep to allow for lounge chairs and umbrella placement. Turf pad cutouts—which are pavestones surrounded by artificial turf—are trending as poolside landscape options, Kevin Foley said.
Additional services Foley Pools offers includes building outdoor living spaces such as arbors, structures, outdoor kitchens, putting greens and more.
What to expect
During the design consultation phase, which either Kevin Foley or his son Tyler Foley direct, customers discuss their goals including privacy needs and pool usage plans.
Foley Pools’ staff survey the property, analyze elevations and create a 3D layout to discuss specifics with customers. Following preconstruction meetings, the sales team will bring any possible project snags, which John Foley identified, to the attention of the customer and they all work together to move the project forward.
Throughout the process, customers have access to a construction software that provides scheduling updates.
What they are saying
As experts in the pool industry, Foley Pools owners weigh in on what their personal pools must include:
- John Foley: A heater to extend pool season
- Kevin Foley: Fun colored lights because we love our pool at night
- Steven Benavides: The pool would be five-feet deep all the way across so you can play volleyball and other activities
As the current owners think about what the future of Foley Pools will look like, they point out that they each have at least one child working for the company. Many of their subcontractors are also multi-generational.
“Most of our crews we’ve worked with since we were kids. I was the one who was digging the ditches and doing the plumbing from a young age until about 15 years ago,” John Foley said. “Our concrete company, rebar guys, plumbers are the same guys and are now bringing in their kids to do the work.”
