Over the ensuing 10 years the business has expanded to take over a second wing of the building and now boasts 20 teaching rooms.
“We've already exceeded everything I could have ever thought we would do,” Iris Meneley said. “I thought if we could get 75 or 100 students, I’d call that a win. We have almost 700 students now. We've built this kind of community where I know my students, even when they're not taking lessons with us. I know who my kids are.”
The couple opened a second Texas Amps & Axes in Celina in 2024.
Meet the team
Although their primary responsibilities are not teaching music, Jon Meneley does teach some guitar and ukulele classes and Iris Meneley substitute teaches for beginner cello students and voice classes.
Texas Amps & Axes employs 37 teachers, many are current performers. Most hold music degrees with several holding masters degrees.
“I love not only working with my wife, but also our employees we’ve picked,” Jon Meneley said. “They’re all extremely knowledgeable, hard working and a lot of fun. It’s a nice community of musicians.”
What they offer
Music experiences can begin for children as young at 3 years old at Texas Amps & Axes. Group and individual lessons for beginner to advanced students are available. Some group lessons are multi-generational while others are specifically for homeschool students.
What else?
Inventory in the store includes acoustic and electric guitars, digital pianos, drums, amps, instrument accessories and more.
“We really want to be the place where people go to get their first instrument," Iris Meneley said. "We love to tailor the experience and really help them try on the fit of the instrument and make sure it's got the texture and feel that they want.”
