H-E-B representatives, town officials and various community members celebrated the start of construction at a groundbreaking ceremony April 2.
“This is a special, special day,” said Juan-Carlos Rück, executive vice president of the Northwest Food Drug Retail Division at H-E-B.
Approximately 155,000 employees work at the more than 400 H-E-B locations across Texas and Mexico, said Mabrie Jackson, senior director of public affairs for H-E-B. The incoming 132,000-square-foot Prosper location will staff approximately 700 people, she said.
H-E-B’s founders believed in giving back to their communities, said Winell Herron, H-E-B’s group vice president of public affairs, environmental affairs, and diversity and inclusion.
“We are humbled to continue that legacy and continue that deep commitment to our customers beyond the four walls of our stores in the more than 300 communities that we serve,” Herron said.
Representatives for Grand Love, the Prosper Education Foundation, Cornerstone North Central Texas and Lovepacs received a check for $10,000 to thank them for the work they do for Prosper, Jackson said.
“We're excited today to be here and have this incredible groundbreaking, but we couldn't do that without investing in some of our local nonprofits,” Herron said.
It took two years and “a lot of behind-the-scenes magic” to get to the H-E-B groundbreaking, and representatives are already getting questions on when it will open, Jackson said.
“Please be patient,” she said.
The store is slated to open sometime in 2025.
“It's not just our store,” said Mary Ann Moon, Prosper Economic Development Corporation’s executive director. “We're going to share it with everybody around us.”
