Construction is underway on a $4.2 million project to repair 29 bridges in Plano, according to a city news release.
Work on the first bridge to be repaired, Custer Road at Spring Creek, began March 2.
City officials estimate construction on the project will be complete by spring 2027.
The details
Repairs will address the surface of the bridges, including the deck and railings, as well as possible damage to structures underneath the bridges from wear and erosion.
Officials choose which bridges to repair every two to three years based on the Texas Department of Transportation’s biennial inspections.
Voters approved funding for the project as part of the city’s 2025 bond election, which included $14 million for bridge repair and replacement.

Crossovers near the bridge will be closed, the median will be used for traffic and streetlights will remain off until the project is complete.
The replacement will cost $1.8 million, mostly made up of federal funding, and is expected to be complete in 10 months.
