Plano ISD officials provided an update on several construction projects underway as part of the district’s 2022 bond.

The gist

Tony Pearson, PISD director of planning and new construction, provided updates on six major projects that are set to begin construction this year during a joint meeting with the PISD board of trustees and Plano City Council on Feb. 1.

The bond projects are broken into five phases, Pearson said. The first phase includes upgrades to all three senior high schools, Williams High School and Haggard Middle School, as well as the construction of a new Career and Technical Education building.

Phase 1 also includes the replacement of many elementary school playgrounds and middle school tracks. Phase 2 will include the remaining playground and track replacements, and the design phase for those projects begins this year.

The specifics

The second phase of renovations to Williams High School will be the first project to start in 2024, with construction expected to begin in February. The first phase of renovations to Williams High School were completed as part of the 2016 bond.

Plano West Senior High School renovations and the Haggard Middle School replacement will be the next projects to break ground, with construction expected to start in May.

The CTE building will break ground in October, and Plano East and Plano senior high schools are both expected to begin construction in November.

The cost

The cost of the six major projects is the following:
  • Williams High School, $59.8 million
  • Haggard Middle School, $84.6 million
  • Plano Senior High School, $197.2 million
  • CTE Center, $76.7 million
  • Plano West Senior High School, $83.4 million
  • Plano East Senior High School, $48.5 million
Looking ahead

All five of the major bond projects besides Plano Senior High School are expected to finish in 2026. Plano Senior High School is expected to complete renovations in 2028 due to the size of the project and the need for the school to stay open while work occurs, Pearson said.
