As city officials respond to the ongoing winter weather, several city services will see disruptions due to hazardous road conditions.
Some Plano streets remained icy Monday morning following additional precipitation and below-freezing temperatures, according to a Jan. 26 city news release.
What’s happening
City officials are encouraging residents to stay home if possible and avoid unnecessary travel. Plano’s Public Works Department will continue to treat intersections, bridges and critical facilities with salt and sand as needed, according to the release.
Several city facilities will remain closed Jan. 26-27 due to hazardous road conditions, including:
- All recreation centers
- All city libraries
- Plano Animal Shelter for adoptions
- Municipal Court, reopens Jan. 27 at 10 a.m.
Plano City Council’s Jan. 26 meeting has been canceled. Agenda items will be rescheduled for February meetings, the
release states.
Trash and recycling will not be collected Jan. 26. For residents with normal collection days on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday, collection services will take place on Wednesday, Jan. 28. Only trash will be collected this week, the release states.
The Plano Overnight Warming Station, located at the East Plano Islamic Center at 4700 14th St., is currently scheduled to remain open through Jan. 28, according to its website. The warming station served approximately 160 people Jan. 24, according to a Jan. 25 city news release.
Residents are encouraged to drip faucets and leave kitchen and bathroom cabinets open to prevent frozen pipes. Water leaks should be reported to Public Works Customer Service at 972-769-4160 or the Ridgeview Pump Station at 972-769-1623.

The Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex is under an Extreme Cold Warning from Jan. 25 until 9 a.m. Jan. 27, according to the National Weather Service.
While sunny weather could lead to minor road improvements during the day, the NWS warns temperatures are expected to remain below freezing, increasing the risk that slushy roads will refreeze overnight.
