The proposed increases were approved by Plano City Council members at their Nov. 10 meeting.
What it means
The fees would be part of the city’s ongoing cost recovery efforts, which began in March. Departments developed proposed cost recovery targets and fee replacements in September, ahead of council’s discussion of the adjusted fees in October.
According to city documents, each department will see an increase in revenue for FY 2025-26:
- Planning Department: $445,495 in revenue
- Engineering Department: $797,094 in revenue
- Building Inspections Department: $278,372 in revenue
Breaking it down
Several building inspection fees will increase from 20% to 150%, with the largest increases for waste disposal and same-day inspections.
Engineering and planning services fees will also increase, ranging from newly established fees for services that previously had none to hikes of several hundred dollars for existing service fees.
Plano officials also recently adopted an ordinance increasing park fees in response to rising land costs and new state legislation.
Park fees are one-time payments charged for each new residential unit to help fund public parkland, ensuring local green space keeps pace with population growth.
The increased fees include:
- Single-family homes fees will rise from $2,065 to $5,691 per unit—a 176% increase
- Multifamily homes will rise from $1,443.66 to $4,359.86 per unit—a 202% increase
The new fees will take effect in January, according to city documents.
