The board of trustees approved Plano ISD’s academic calendar for the 2023-24 school year at its Dec. 6 meeting. The new calendar sets the school year to begin Aug. 9 and end May 24, 2024.
The new calendar will also add 10 more minutes to the school day from the 2022-23 school year.
There will be 174 instructional days in the school year with 85 days in the first semester and 89 in the second semester. The first semester will end Jan. 9, 2024.
Thanksgiving break is set for Nov. 20-24; winter break is set for Dec. 22, 2023-Jan. 5, 2024; and spring break is set for March 11-15, 2024.
The board of trustees saw two drafts during its Nov. 15 meeting before settling on the approved plan. The only major change was that the drafts listed April 1 as a student/teacher holiday, while April 22 is the only student/teacher holiday in April in the final plan.
