Schimelpfenig Library in Plano is set to close May 10 for around a month while shelving is replaced.

What you need to know

The $383,987 project will be paid for with 2021 bond funding, and is expected to finish in mid-June, according to a city news release.

Plano Libraries Director Libby Holtmann said that the current shelving is more than 40 years old. She added that the new shelving would be the same as in the city’s newer libraries, allowing the libraries to “share” shelving when it is damaged.

The library is expected to reopen mid-June.

What else?

Any items requested for holds at Schimelpfenig will be sent to Haggard Library for pick up while Schimelpfenig is closed.

Borrowed materials can be returned to other library locations during the closure, and library programming will also be moved, while temporary locations can be found online.
