Planned renovations at Plano Senior High School are moving forward after a preliminary replat for the school’s property garnered approval.

The Plano Planning and Zoning Commission approved the filing, which highlights the new location for athletic facilities, during the Sept. 16 meeting.

In a nutshell

City of Plano Planner Destiny Woods said the primary purpose of the replat is to show amended easements for the property. City staff told commissioners that the document also shows updated parking lots and athletic fields outside the main campus buildings.

The adjustments to the existing plat are part of Plano ISD’s renovation project at Plano Senior High School, which includes upgrades to athletic facilities, increased safety and security, two new gyms, and more.

During the commission’s public hearing, some residents raised concerns about lighting for the fields, which is included in the project. Among the concerns was the proximity of pole lighting that could create light pollution within the nearby homes.

Looking ahead

Construction on the improvements to Plano Senior High School are expected to begin in November. Because of the scale of the $197.2 million project and the school remaining open during renovations, construction is expected to last until 2028.

Future commission action for the renovation plans could include approval of a concept plan, Development Review Manager Mike Bell said.
