The McKinney church was founded Nov. 29, 1855 by a group of Cumberland Presbyterians who moved from Tennessee, said Valerie Mowell, director of outreach and engagement for the church. Collin County’s population at the time was estimated to be less than 2,000 people.
The church has congregated in three locations at different points during its history. Trinity Presbyterian moved to its third and current location in the 1990s, Mowell said. The church meets every Sunday morning for worship and supports local nonprofits such as Hugs Cafe Inc. and Emmanuel Labor.
The Rev. Mally Baum, senior pastor, said they were “incredibly grateful” for the generosity of people who have made this church possible. Church leaders are looking to the future though as Trinity Presbyterian had recently purchased four acres of land adjacent to the church, Baum said.
“We’re incredibly grateful for our heritage but really our focus is forward,” Baum said. “We just purchased the four acres behind us and we’re in the process of discerning how it is we can use that land to meet some genuine needs in the community.”
