Medical City McKinney officials have unveiled the hospital’s newest surgical robot, named “Wilbur” by an Allen ISD 6th grade.

Medical City McKinney received the robot in December, a media spokesperson said in an email. Surgeons will use the robot to complete a variety of minimally invasive procedures, according to a news release.

The new robot will assist in thoracic, general surgery, colorectal, urology and gynecology surgeries. Medical City Healthcare offers minimally invasive robotic surgeries at multiple North Texas hospitals including locations in Plano and Frisco.

Advanced robotic systems deployed in North Texas allow surgeons to perform advanced surgery with "unparalleled precision," according to Medical City McKinney's website. Robotic procedures can lead to less pain and a shorter recovery time, the website states.

Medical City McKinney is a 311-bed acute care hospital with more than 875 physicians. The hospital offers a variety of treatment services including robotic surgery, orthopedics and a neonatal intensive care unit.
