Medical City McKinney will see floors added, new operating rooms and other renovations as part of a $142 million expansion project, according to a Sept. 10 news release.

Construction on the project is set to begin in 2025, with completion expected by 2028, the release stated.

The specifics

The 311-bed hospital will see over 105,000-square-feet of new space added, including two stories above the Medical City Women’s Hospital McKinney. The project will also add four new operating rooms, a new post-anesthesia care unit and additional space for day surgery, the release states.

Other new spaces being added include two C-section suites and six labor and delivery suites. Enhancements are planned to refresh the existing labor and delivery, C-section and postpartum suites as well. The renovated spaces will match the design and amenities of the Women’s Hospital that opened in November, the release stated.

The impact

The hospital’s total bed count will increase by 46 as a result of the expansion. The project will also result in increased capacity in various units including medical-surgical, step-down and intensive care, the release stated.

“McKinney is one of the fastest growing cities in the nation and Medical City McKinney is committed to helping meet our region’s need for high-quality healthcare services,” Medical City McKinney CEO Mark Deno, who began his role with the hospital in August, said in the release. “Our hospital has served this community for more than 100 years, and expanding and enhancing facilities and services is another reason our community turns to us as the destination of healthcare excellence.”

Zooming out

The hospital has seen a number of expansions in recent years.

Most recently, a $17 million women’s hospital opened in November 2023, featuring a 21-bed neonatal intensive unit, 25 postpartum beds and a full-service newborn nursery. The hospital also saw the addition of a $64 million patient tower and ER expansion, which opened in late 2021, the release stated.

Construction on a $50 million medical office building is underway at the hospital, and is set to be complete in summer 2025. The expansion projects are part of a $1.5 billion capital investment initiative by Medical City Healthcare to implement capital improvements across the healthcare system over a five-year period, the release states.
