The American Red Cross is calling for people to donate blood and platelets to avoid a summer shortage, according to a news release.

The American Red Cross of North Texas is holding multiple blood drives in the region to help supply hospitals this July, noting donations are “critically needed,” the release states. They ask for donors of all blood types to donate, with emphasis on those with type O blood and donors giving platelets, the release states.

Upcoming donation opportunities will be held across the region through July 31. Locations and times for blood drives could be found on the organization’s website. Those interested in donating can also call 1-800-RED-CROSS or use the Red Cross Blood Donor app.
