McKinney shifts trash collection schedule due to weather

City officials began announcing modifications to city services and facilities last week ahead of an arctic cold front that reached North Texas over the weekend. Facility closures and service modifications can be tracked via McKinney’s inclement weather website. Facilities expected to remain closed Tuesday include the John and Judy Gay Library and McKinney City Hall, which is closed to in-person business.

The Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex is under an Extreme Cold Warning until 9 a.m. Jan. 27, according to the National Weather Service. Temperature highs are estimated to remain in the 20s with lows in the teens and single digits through Tuesday morning.

Minor road improvements are expected Jan. 26 from sunny skies, but NWS officials warn temperatures will not rise above freezing. Any slushy roads could refreeze overnight.

Significant road improvement is not expected until Tuesday afternoon, when temperatures are expected to climb above freezing. NWS forecasts temperatures in DFW will reach 35 degrees by noon Jan. 27.
