Mckinney-based Encore Wire is seeking new zoning from the city for a proposed industrial expansion east of Airline Road.

The zoning request passed through McKinney’s Planning and Zoning Commission with a unanimous recommendation during a May 13 meeting. McKinney City Council is expected to consider and vote on the request during a May 20 meeting.

An official with Prysmian, which acquired Encore Wire in 2024, confirmed a large expansion was being planned in McKinney. Anna Wright, vice president of marketing and external communications for Prysmian, said in an email that groundbreaking on the project is expected to occur later this year with completion in 2026.

In a nutshell

If approved by council, nearly 200 acres will be rezoned for a new industrial building that will be located next to Mckinney National Airport. While the proposed use falls under industrial uses, the applicant is seeking new zoning for a planned development district for modifications to certain development standards, according to city documents.

The applicant is proposing a 55-foot-tall building on the site with two industrial manufacturing towers that reach 105 feet at maximum height. Plans include “significant setbacks” from Airport Drive, Industrial Boulevard and all property lines.
  • 50-foot setback along Airport Drive and Industrial Boulevard
  • 300-foot setback from all property lines for the industrial towers
  • 50-foot setback from adjacent public streets or front property line for loading bays
City Planner Arecelli Botello said staff supports the proposed rezoning since it's consistent with the city’s comprehensive plan and would have no negative impact on surrounding properties.

“The proposed industrial use is consistent with the existing zoning and development patterns in the area,” she said. “Additionally, the request aligns with the intent of the business aviation district as designated in the city’s comprehensive plan.”
