With the next fiscal year set to begin in October, department directors at the city of McKinney are already setting new goals and objectives to pursue in the new year.

McKinney City Council approved a resolution to adopt new department-level objectives for fiscal year 2025-2026 during a May 6 meeting. City Performance Manager Saima Ali said 184 department-level objectives were developed in support of the council's six strategic goals.

In a nutshell

The full list of department-level objectives can be accessed through the City Council’s May 6 work session agenda. Objectives are established each year after council members discuss strategic goals for the following year, Ali said during the work session.

Objectives are reviewed by the performance manager, city manager and city staff before being presented to council for approval, according to a staff presentation. Objectives are filed under each strategic goal discussed by council earlier this year. The strategic goals are listed below:

1. Direction for strategic and economic growth

2. Operational excellence

3. Maximize development potential of McKinney National Airport

4. Financially sound government

5. Enhance quality of life in McKinney

6. Safe and secure community

Looking forward

The next fiscal year begins October 1, 2025 and will run through the end of September 2026. Progress on each objective will be monitored throughout the year. The city performance manager will post quarterly updates on the city’s performance dashboard.

City officials are currently working on strategic goals and objectives approved for the 2024-25 fiscal year. Nearly 80% of the goals approved by council are currently on track, according to the dashboard.
