The McKinney Fire Department has been awarded the “Best Practices” designation by the Texas Fire Chiefs Association, according to a news release from the department.

The city fire department is one of 27 fire departments across the state to have received the honor, the release states. The TFCA’s Best Practices Recognition Program recognizes fire departments that meet 117 best practice benchmarks measured across several areas such as administration, emergency operations, training, ethics and community risk reduction.

Fire departments undergo the redesignation process every five years, the release states. Fire Chief Paul Dow accepted the award on behalf of the department during TFCA’s annual conference in April.

“This achievement reflects our ongoing commitment to high performance, safety and continuous improvement to the McKinney community,” Dow said in a statement.
