McKinney City Council approved over $4.1 million in funding for equipment for the McKinney Police Department at recent meetings.

The context

McKinney City Council members mostly recently approved a contract to purchase a $125,300 virtual reality police training simulator.

The simulator approved at an Aug. 1 meeting was purchased from Georgia-based InVeris Training Solutions Inc. The company offers technology-driven training resources for law enforcement agencies, shooting range owners and the military, according to its website.

Council members also authorized a contract totaling over $4 million for police equipment at a June 20 meeting. The contract with Axon Enterprise Inc. will provide the McKinney Police Department with body-worn cameras, fleet cameras and Tasers, according to meeting documents.
