With all 59 vote centers in Collin County reporting, the race for McKinney’s next mayor is going to a run off election.
The specifics
Candidate Bill Cox received the most votes but did not receive more than 50% of total votes cast, which is the threshold required to win the four-candidate race. Votes cast in the race include:
- Cox received 8,953 votes, representing 46.79% of votes cast
- Scott Sanford received 7,810 votes, representing 40.81% of votes cast
- Taylor Willingham received 1,267 votes, representing 6.62% of votes cast
- Matt “Doc” Rostami received 1,106 votes, representing 5.78% of votes cast
What’s next?
The election day for runoff races is scheduled for June 7, with early voting being held May 27-31 as well as June 2-3. Voting locations, sample ballots and voting hours will be available on the Collin County Elections website.

Cox has received 8,769 votes, representing 46.79% of votes cast, according to Collin County election results. It will require one candidate receiving more than 50% of votes cast to win the four-candidate race.
Votes cast for other mayoral candidates include:
- Scott Sanford has received 7,685 votes, representing 41% of votes cast
- Taylor Willingham has received 1,233 votes, representing 6.58% of votes cast
- Matt “Doc” Rostami has received 1,056 votes, representing 5.63% of votes cast
With 22 of 59 vote centers reporting, Bill Cox is maintaining his lead in the race to be McKinney’s next mayor.
Cox has received 7,192 votes, representing 47.12% of votes cast, according to Collin County election results. It will require one candidate receiving more than 50% of votes cast to win the four-candidate race.
Votes cast for other mayoral candidates include:
- Scott Sanford has received 6,246 votes, representing 40.93% of votes cast
- Taylor Willingham has received 984 votes, representing 6.45% of votes cast
- Matt “Doc” Rostami has received 840 votes, representing 5.5% of votes cast
Early voting results from Collin County show an early lead for Bill Cox in the race to be McKinney’s next mayor.
What you need to know
In the mayoral race, Cox has received 6,251 votes, which represents about 47.23% of the 13,235 votes cast during early voting.
Scott Sanford follows with 5,429 votes, representing 41.02% of votes cast, according to early voting results.
Votes cast during early voting for other mayoral candidates include:
- Taylor Willingham has received 846 votes, which represents about 6.39% of votes cast
- Matt “Doc” Rostami has received 709 votes, which represents about 5.36% of votes cast
In early voting, there were 54,401 ballots cast countywide, which represents 7.35% of Collin County’s 740,482 registered voters.
Totals from ballots cast May 3 have yet to be released. Polls closed at 7 p.m., although voters who were in line at 7 p.m. were still able to cast ballots.
