With all 59 vote centers in Collin County reporting, the race for McKinney’s next mayor is going to a run off election.

The specifics

Candidate Bill Cox received the most votes but did not receive more than 50% of total votes cast, which is the threshold required to win the four-candidate race. Votes cast in the race include:
  • Cox received 8,953 votes, representing 46.79% of votes cast
  • Scott Sanford received 7,810 votes, representing 40.81% of votes cast

In the event that one candidate does not receive more than 50% of votes cast, the two candidates that received the most votes will continue on to a runoff election for the mayor seat, Collin County Elections Administration Kaleb Breaux said. Cox and Sanford received the most votes, and are expected to face off in the runoff election. All results are unofficial until canvassed.
