As part of McKinney ISD’s 2021 bond program, additions and renovations for two campuses—Johnson Middle School and McKinney Boyd High School— will be completed following school board approval July 22.

The project at Johnson Middle School is expected to cost $18.56 million, while the McKinney Boyd project is estimated to be $3.25 million.

The specifics

The construction projects were both included in the district’s 2021 bond program.

Johnson Middle School had $23 million earmarked for its additions and renovations. Phase 1 of the project included relocating some of the school’s parking lots, rerouting a fire lane and relocating underground utilities, and was approved by the board in May. The first phase is estimated to cost $1.22 million.

Phase 2 of the project includes adding classrooms and performing arts space. The school will have a net gain of 16 classrooms with the addition of an office suite, according to the meeting presentation. A band hall will be added to the campus which will also house an office and workroom, ensemble rooms and practice rooms.

The board approved a guaranteed maximum price of $15.11 million for the second phase of the project with Corgan Architects. Additional costs and fees for the project bring the total project cost to $18.56 million, according to the agenda.
