Renovations are coming to the McKinney North High School tennis courts and McKinney Boyd High School indoor turf football field.

The McKinney ISD board of trustees on Dec. 13 approved two contracts with Hellas Construction to lead the upgrades. Hellas was selected for both projects through contracts with nonprofit entity 1Government Procurement Alliance, according to meeting documents.

The MBHS renovations will include fully replacing the 15-year-old turf in its indoor practice field.

“It is at the end of life,” Chief Operations Officer Greg Suttle said. “It’s a very slick surface right now.”

The turf was first installed in 2007, one year after the school opened in 2006. Replacing it will cost $316,945, including a $15,000 contingency fee. Hellas will make and install the turf themselves, expecting to be done during summer 2023.

“As soon as school’s out, we can replace that relatively quickly,” Suttle said.

The MNHS renovations include resurfacing the school's eight tennis courts.

“The last time these got any attention was the 2013-2014 school year,” Suttle said.

Resurfacing the courts will cost $109,920, which includes an additional $5,000 contingency fee for any unforeseen complications. Hellas will fully repaint, recaulk and add new nets to each court.

Since the agreements with Hellas were government contracts, the final cost for both projects had already been negotiated to the best possible price, Suttle said. Both contracts were then approved unanimously by the board.
