1. McKinney Performing Arts Center renovation
Project: Renovation work to update areas of the 23,000-square-foot facility including the Courtroom Theater, public restrooms and other public areas.
Update: Design work recently began and renovation work is expected to begin early next year.

- Funding source: City of McKinney certificates of obligation
Project: Renovation work to adapt the building to serve as a headquarters facility exclusively for the McKinney Police Department. The facility currently also houses the McKinney Fire Department headquarters, which is set to relocate to its own facility. The renovation will include portions of the 90,000-square-foot main building as well as the 27,000-square-foot support building.
Update: The project is in design and expected to begin construction early next year.

- Funding source: 2015 and 2019 public safety bond funds
Project: Planning is underway to determine if the facility should be renovated, adaptively reused or if new construction is needed to accommodate the needs of various departments in the city’s public works division including water, wastewater, and streets as well as other departments like Parks Maintenance.
Update: Master planning is underway and construction is expected to begin in 2027 or 2028.

- Funding source: City water and wastewater funds, 2019 and 2024 public works bond funds
Project: Renovation work to update and reimagine the 33,000-square-foot facility including changing the library’s layout, consolidating staff areas, adding additional restrooms and a second elevator. The project will also add a planetarium and exhibit area.
Update: Design work on the project is nearing completion. The library is set to close to the public June 13.

5. McKinney Fire Department Headquarters
Project: Construction of three new buildings to serve as a headquarters complex for the McKinney Fire Department, including a 40,200-square-foot Fire Administration building, a 20,150-square-foot Fire Logistics building and a 16,500-square foot Fire Station 2 replacement facility. The facility is directly adjacent to the existing McKinney Public Safety building, which currently houses administration offices for both fire and police departments.
Update: The project is under construction and is set to be completed later this year.
