Four new pickleball courts opened for use Oct. 11 at McKinney’s Finch Park, according to Parks and Recreation Director Michael Kowski.

The new courts join eight pre-existing courts at the park. Of the total 12 courts now available, eight are dedicated pickleball courts and four are striped on top of tennis courts.

Kowski said McKinney parks will see more dedicated and temporary pickleball courts in future renovation and construction projects due to popularity of the sport. Future sites for pickleball courts include the E. A. Randles Park that is in the design phase and the Gabe Nesbitt Indoor Tennis Facility that is under construction.

McKinney hosted the USA Pickleball Mid-South Diamond Regional tournament earlier this year at The Courts of McKinney at Gabe Nesbitt Community Park. Kowski said the tournament brought out 1,000 players for four days of pickleball matches.
