“Shortly thereafter, we received bankruptcy notices from Party City stating that its lease at 2097 N. Central Expressway in McKinney would be up for auction to be purchased by new entities looking to continue the existing lease,” Smith said. “Recently, we were notified that Cavender’s was the winning bid and would begin its finish out and be open for business ASAP.”
Party City closed March 31 and construction work to renovate the space for Cavender’s is underway. According to a filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, the renovation project is estimated to cost $550,000.
A closer look
Cavender’s sells western wear and boots for men, women and children. The business was founded in 1965, in Pittsburg,Texas, the company website states.
“Cavender's started with three styles of Tony Lama boots,” the website states. “They sold well, and so James [Cavender] bought more. It was just the beginning for this family company that would go on to sell millions of pairs of boots and become the fastest growing Western wear chain in America.”
