Council members approved a specific use permit for the project in a 5-1 vote, with Council member Justin Beller voting against the item and Mayor Pro Tem Geré Feltus absent from the meeting.
The gist
The general business zoning designation on the site requires a specific use permit to allow for minor vehicle repair uses, Director of Planning Jennifer Arnold said at the meeting.
Arnold noted that the development is adjacent to other commercial uses, and said that both city staff and the McKinney Planning and Zoning Commission recommended approval of the request.
“We are already seeing commercial pad sites developing here, it’s a highly commercial area,” Arnold said.
The business would be located on the west side of Lake Forest Drive, just south of University Drive, according to city documents. Beller, who voted against the request, noted that the business will be adjacent to Anamia’s, a nearby restaurant with an outdoor patio, and diners may be affected by noise from the automotive repair facility.
