A new La Quinta and Hawthorn hotel by Wyndham is set to be constructed in south McKinney.

The specifics

The prototype hotel will feature about 100 rooms with a mix of La Quinta guest rooms and Hawthorn Extended Stay guest rooms, said Jesse Verghese, a hotel developer and consultant with Trinity Group Inc., the company developing the project.

The four-story hotel, which will be located adjacent to McKinney ISD Stadium, will feature a bar in the lobby and offer breakfast daily, Verghese said.

Verghese said the permitting process is underway for the $15 million project, which could begin construction as soon as December or January. The hotel is expected to be completed 16 months after breaking ground, he said, setting the project for a 2026 opening.

The context

Verghese said the hotel concept was selected as a result of increased demand for extended-stay suites in the area.

“Hotel stays, they keep changing ... and we want to keep in touch with what's the latest, and be able to keep up with what the travel and the occupancy is,” he said.

The first La Quinta-Hawthorn prototype hotel opened in Pflugerville in June 2022, a news release from Wyndham Hotels and Resorts states, and over 60 more locations were planned as of late 2022.
