Art-focused businesses Glaze Ceramic Studio and LX Artworks are both planning projects to expand their spaces at the McKinney Cotton Mill in east McKinney.

Glaze Ceramic Studio, a ceramic arts studio that offers classes and private memberships, is expanding its existing studio to meet the demand for more memberships and resident artist spaces, the owners of the business said in an email. The expansion will allow for the addition of 35 new members and four resident artist spaces.

The expansion also includes the addition of an outdoor kiln yard and will allow for additional ceramics class offerings. The owners aim to have the expansion completed by October, according to an email.

LX Artworks, an art gallery featuring work by Lindsay Ekstrom in a variety of mediums, is also constructing a larger space at the McKinney Cotton Mill, located at 610 Elm St.

The first-floor space will total 4,500 square feet and include workspace, a storefront and exhibition space. The gallery is expected to open later this year, a representative of the business said.

“We're so thrilled to open our space later this year, and we hope it adds to McKinney's colorful, growing arts scene,” Ekstrom said in a statement.
