Shawn Nelson won Highland Village's election for Place 4 on City Council, according to results from the Denton County Elections Administration.
Nelson, who works as a consulting senior manager, won with 1,041 votes, or 59.38%, followed by project manager Kevin Cox with 417 votes, or 23.79%. Ray David, a bank president, had 295 votes, or 16.83%.
All Highland Village City Council seats are elected at-large. Council members serve staggered, two-year terms. Nelson will replace Council Member Barbara Fleming, whose term expires this year.
"I would like to thank my wife, my family, friends old and new, and the residents and leaders of our great city of Highland Village," Nelson, a 16-year Highland Village resident, said in an email. "Our city’s legacy and heritage have been built on the backs of current and past city leaders and staff, as well as dedicated residents. I’m extremely honored to be able serve our residents alongside our current leaders and city staff, ensuring Highland Village remains the city we all know and love for generations to come."
Council is scheduled to canvas vote totals on May 17, according to the city of Highland Village. For full election results, click here.
