Registered Flower Mound residents will have the chance to vote on a ballot proposition to reauthorize the town’s street maintenance sales and use tax at a rate of 0.0025% on Nov. 5.

In other words, if it is reauthorized, a penny of every $4 a person spends in the town will go toward the street maintenance fund.

Flower Mound Town Council voted unanimously at its Aug. 5 meeting to order the special election and allocate $20,920 to contract with Denton and Tarrant counties to administer it.

Voters first approved the tax in 2007 and reauthorized it in 2011 and 2015. According to the city, the tax must be reauthorized every four years, and the current authorization is set to expire on March 31, 2020.

The tax, according to the ordinance, is the primary funding source for the town’s street maintenance and reconstruction projects.
