What you need to know
In a presentation discussing their plans for the upcoming school year, the LISD School Health Advisory Council committee announced the following items:
- A subcommittee will be formed for elementary campuses to monitor student's physical activity and movement throughout the day
- A Fentanyl Poisoning Awareness week will take place to educate students in grades 6-12 about the dangers of the drug, as established by House Bill 3908
- The continued collaboration with Aramark Student Nutrition to sample food and provide feedback
- Bluebonnet Elementary School saw significant renovations, such as as newly painted walls, modern interior, movable library furniture and a new mascot logo.
- Flower Mound High School and Hebron High School both had renovations to cheer locker rooms to add dressing space and mirrors, and a new restroom with a shower was added to the school.
- At Flower Mound, Lewisville and Marcus high schools, floor mounted basketball goals were changed to overhead goals.
- Lewisville High School had an enclosed sound booth added to the auditorium for increased security.
- All five high schools will have new band towers. Towers at Lewisville and Flower Mound high schools have both been completed, and the remaining towers are expected to be completed after football season ends in November.
- The LISD Student Success Center's parking lot was doubled in size.
- A new band hall that also serves as a storm shelter was constructed for Lamar Middle School, as well as a new technology lab.
- The press box for the football stadium was replaced at Colony High School. A new multipurpose gymnasium, known as the Cougar Activity Center, will be completed for the school next summer.
- Renovations and additional construction for Technology, Exploration & Career Center East will begin in March 2024.
