Japanese cuisine restaurant Sushi Sakana held a soft opening Aug. 1 in Coppell, co-owner James Park said.

The store, located at 171 N. Denton Tap Road, Ste. 100, is scheduled to fully open Sept. 1, Park said. The Coppell storefront is one of four Sushi Sakanas in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, with locations in Plano, Southlake and Uptown Dallas.

For starting courses, the restaurant offers appetizers ranging from edamame and agedashi tofu to stuffed jalapenos and Japanese fried chicken. Patrons can also order a variety of salads. Sushi Sakana serves a full spectrum of fresh fish complete with seared, white and toro tuna, seared and smoked salmon, and yellowtail as well as shrimp and scallops. It also features Japanese delicacies, such as octopus; squid; madai, or red snapper; and unagi, or barbecued eel.

Entree dishes include servings of steak, chicken, pork, fish, lobster and tofu, steamed white rice, and choice of two sides. Rounding out the menu are sushi and sashimi rolls, rice bowls, noodle bowls, curry, and miso soup. For drinks, the restaurant serves a selection of red and white wines, beer and sake, and sodas.

Park said he tried to create a welcoming atmosphere and hopes guests feel comfortable and enjoy time with friends and family while partaking in high-quality Japanese food.

“We want it to feel like you are going to your friend's house,” he said.
