Facing challenger Jimmy Tran in the June 10 runoff election for the seat, Weinberg received 53.21% of the 7,989 ballots cast, according to unofficial results. More than 11,500 ballots were cast in the May 6 general election for the District 2 seat, with no candidate receiving 50% of the total vote leading to the runoff.
Candidates Tran, Weinberg and Kevin Malonson initially appeared on the ballot in May to vie for the seat left open by Dustin Marshall, who did not seek re-election. Tran received 39.62% of the May 6 vote; Weinberg received 37.1%.
Early voting for the runoff election began May 30 and ran through June 6. A little more than 9,600 voters cast ballots during early voting, according to unofficial counts.
Board members serve three-year staggered terms and are not subject to term limits, according to the DISD website.
