The project will add turn lanes from Championship Parkway and SH 114. Near that location now is a shopping center that features Kurogi Ramen and Sushi, Einstein Bros. Bagels, Texas Regional Bank and North Central Texas College’s Alliance branch.
On the north side of the road is the Texas Motor Speedway.
The details
A traffic signal analysis for the intersection completed in June 2023 identified periods of eight-hour and four-hour vehicle traffic. According to city documents, the Texas Department of Transportation concurred with the findings for new traffic signals.
The current intersection doesn't have signals or a pedestrian crossing, which creates a safety concern for northbound and southbound traffic, according to city documents.
What’s happening?
The proposed changes include dual through lanes and dual left-hand turn lanes for both the northbound and southbound sides of Championship Parkway, adding Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant sidewalks or ramps and pavement markings and signage.
Denton County will fund 70% of the work, and the city of Fort Worth has requested support from TIF reinvestment Zone No. 2, also known as the Texas Motor Speedway TIF, in the amount of up to $1.5 million to help fund its portion, according to city documents.
By the numbers
The overall anticipated cost of the project is $5 million. Denton County will pay for the design of the project and will award the contract. The city of Fort Worth’s $1.5 million will be paid to either the county or TxDOT for the construction efforts, according to city documents.
