A 0.35 mile hike and bike trail expansion along Mount Gilead Road is scheduled to begin in August, according to a July 31 Facebook post from the city of Keller.

What’s new

Construction of a 10-foot-wide pedestrian road on the north side of the street near Roanoke Road will start Aug. 11.

The build out is expected to take about nine months, according to the post. Rachel Reynolds, the city’s communication and public engagement manager, said the project is expected to have minimal impacts for traffic and residents.

The backstory

Keller City Council approved a contract to design the trail in October 2024, according to previous Community Impact reporting. The city approved the bid for construction during its June 17 council meeting.

The existing connection between Mount Gilead and Roanoke Road will be extended to the east 1,350 feet, then north another 500 feet, according to city documents. The project will cost roughly $567,000 and will be funded by the Keller Development Corporation Fund.

The proposed segments on Mount Gilead and Roanoke Road have been on the Hike and Bike Maser Trail Plan for more than two decades, according to city documents.
