Fort Worth City Council approved amending speed limits changes to several school zones, streets and highways during its June 24 meeting.

A closer look

The speed limit near the schools will now be 20 miles per hour, according to city documents.

The changes include school zone areas from Northwest ISD near near the Justin/Fort Worth city limits:

• Northwest High School
• Clara Love Elementary
• W.R. Hatfield Elementary
• O.A. Peterson Elementary

The schools in Keller ISD, which are part of Council District 4, affected by the speed limit changes include:

• Trinity Meadows Intermediate School
• Vista Ridge Middle School in Fort Worth

The changes were enacted due to data compiled from completed private development, city roadway projects and traffic studies, according to city documents.

In other news

In northeast Fort Worth, there will also be a speed limit change near SH 114.

According to city documents, the speed limit from the Denton County line to Fort Worth city limits and I-35W will now be 55 miles per hour.

The previous speed limit ranged from 45 miles per hour to 60 miles per hour from North Freeway to Jarrett Drive, which is west of Texas Motor Speedway.

Now, the speed limit will run west to S. County Line Road.
