The railroad crossing at Keller Hicks Road in Keller will close Aug. 1 through November, according to a news release from the city of Keller.

What’s happening

According to a city of Keller newsletter, crews will be working on water and stormwater infrastructure, a retaining wall and road repaving around the railroad tracks.

The total scope of the project includes expanding Keller Hicks to a three-lane road with a turn lane in Fort Worth and reconstructing Keller’s two-lane road east of the railroad track, according to project documents.

Other improvements include:
  • 10-foot sidewalks replacing drainage
  • Illumination improvements
  • Replacing the stop sign at the intersection of Keller Hicks Road and Katy Road with a traffic signal and left-turn lanes
  • Removing and replacing an existing culvert to change the elevation of the road at the culvert crossing

The project on Keller Hicks Road, between Lauren Way and US 377, is being managed by the city of Fort Worth, but both cities are contributing funds for the work.

According to the city of Fort Worth’s website, the project is $16.8 million. Rachel Reynolds, city of Keller communication and public engagement manager, said in an email the city of Keller is contributing about $2.2 million.

The impact

During the closure, drivers will need to head south to Keller Parkway in Keller or Golden Triangle Boulevard in Fort Worth, or north to Mt. Gilead Road in Keller or Timberland Boulevard in Fort Worth for east-west routes, according to the city of Keller newsletter.


Traffic on Keller Hicks Road in Fort Worth, west of Katy Road, will be one-way traffic, according to the project details.
