Falck, a private emergency medical services company from Denmark, started EMS services in Fort Worth, according to a June press release.

What’s happening

The agreement with Falck comes after Fort Worth officials voted May 21, 2024, to move on from Medstar and transition EMS services to the Fort Worth Fire Department. That transition went into effect July 1, according to previous reporting.

Falck is working with the city of Fort Worth to alleviate non-life threatening emergency calls from the Fort Worth Fire Department, David Phillips, managing director of Falck Southwest, told Community Impact.

“The gap in service created by the change from MedStar to FWFD meant many community-based patients and facilities would struggle to meet ambulance transport needs,” Phillips said.

Falck provides 911 backup to FWFD, as well, since the company follows the same protocols as Fort Worth, he added.

Diving deeper

Falck services can be requested specifically if the cases are non-life threatening, Phillips said.

Some of the EMS requests Falck responds to includes:
  • Advanced life support services
  • Basic life support
  • Critical care transport
  • Standby services for events
Phillips added that the company plans to expand operations across the Dallas-Fort Worth area and throughout the state over the next few years.

“Falck recognizes the market potential of the healthcare sector in the DFW region, which continues to grow,” he said. “We see Texas as a great place to do business, and DFW to be a natural home for our services.”
