Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Alliance was recognized in July for its stroke services.

The hospital earned The Joint Commission Gold Seal of Approval and the American Heart Association’s Heart-Check mark for Primary Stroke Center Certification. This certification is awarded every two years and symbolizes the hospital's dedication to meeting the specialized needs of stroke patients, according to a news release.

The background

The hospital serves more than 50,000 patients annually from north Fort Worth, Haslet, Justin, Roanoke, and surrounding areas, the news release stated.

"We first earned this prestigious certification in 2022, and it’s one of many achievements that help us meet the needs of North Texans," President of Texas Health Alliance Clint Abernathy said in the news release. "This certification confirms our readiness to care for individuals when they arrive at our door."

According to the American Heart Association, stroke prevalence in the U.S. is expected to rise significantly in the coming decades.

According to the news release:
  • Total cardiovascular disease and stroke, excluding hypertension, will rise from 11.3% to 15%, affecting 28 million to 45 million adults.
  • High blood pressure will be most common in those aged 80+, but the highest increases will occur in younger and middle-aged adults, with an age range of 20-64 years.
  • Stroke prevalence will increase from 3.9% to 6.4%, nearly doubling from 10 million to almost 20 million adults.
These statistics underscore the critical importance of stroke care facilities like Texas Health Alliance, according to the news release.

The certification validates the hospital’s commitment to upholding the highest standards and growing alongside the community, Stroke Program Coordinator at Texas Health Alliance Scott Leiker said in the release.

"Our goal is to raise stroke awareness, emphasizing the importance of timely diagnosis and treatment to improve patient recovery and quality of life," Leiker said.

The certification also recognizes healthcare organizations for clinical programs and performance measures in stroke care, ensuring patients and caregivers are educated and prepared for discharge, the release stated.

Texas Health Alliance offers comprehensive stroke care, including emergency treatment and rehabilitation services.

"When patients and families trust us with their care, we're dedicated to providing them with the highest level of service," Abernathy said. "This commitment helps us build lasting connections within our community."
