Fort Worth is now the 11th-largest city in the United States.

According to data released May 15 from the U.S. Census Bureau, Fort Worth population in 2024 was 1,008,016 as of July 2024.

The details

Data shows that dating back to 2020, Fort Worth is the fastest-growing city among the top-30 cities in terms of population. Fort Worth has seen a 9.7% population growth since 2020 and a 3.1% growth over the past year.

The city added 64 people per day for a total gain of 23,442 people, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. That was the fifth-largest growth in the country in the past year.


The added population allowed Fort Worth to surpass Austin as the fourth-largest city in Texas, trailing Houston [2.3 million], San Antonio [1.5 million] and Dallas [1.3 million], according to a news release.

Fort Worth was the 13th-largest city after the 2023 census.

“Growth doesn’t just happen,” City Manager Jay Chapa said in a news release. “For decades, the city of Fort Worth has been led by public servants who prioritized fiscal discipline, continually improved services and focused on delivering quality of life for residents. Surpassing 1 million residents is a reminder that the work matters and we have a responsibility to continue stewarding that growth into the future.”

According to data from the city, Fort Worth has witnessed a 60.4% growth in population since 2000.

Data from the North Central Texas Council of Governments predicts that Fort Worth could see growth of 13.8% by 2035 and 27.2% in 2050 compared to the 2024 number.
