Roanoke City Council members unanimously approved the Motorola proposal for the new police department facility and the expanded telecommunications center during their council meeting Sept. 10.

In a nutshell

The plan includes five new dispatch consoles and two new consolettes that the Motorola team will install into the new dispatch building. In addition, the team plans to relocate the existing consoles and consolettes into the new building.

The proposal will be funded through funds allocated to the police/courts project. The contract price of $775,277 for the project will be distributed over five years, with $551,278 for the first year and $223,999 for the next four years.

The parts will not arrive until late summer 2025. All equipment will be set up and relocated over the course of one year.
